Year 6 students had the opportunity to enter a piece of writing into a competition to be published in a collection of student writing. Below is a collection of work that students chose to be entered.
The students of kotahitanga have been writing diairies from the perspective of an Anzac soldier during WWI. Click on the image below to read the book of diaries.
Kotahitanga has been thinking and writing about Anzac Day. We have been reading and listening to letters from the anzacletter.co.nz campaign that is currently running. Ask your child what to talk about what life would have been like as a soldier during WWI.
A letter home from war (written by Peter Buckley) Dear Family, I was piloting a Hawker Typhoon and seeing tanks and soldiers on the ground firing back. Bang! Boom! Tanks have blown to pieces. Guns are firing like mad. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! The Hawker Typhoon machine guns go off. I fly to the clouds seeing peace like I want it to be in the world. I felt frightened to death. Suddenly two enemy jets attacked me making me jump. Firing two rockets, I destroyed both jets. I hope I live. Love from your dear son Peter Buckley We played a game of 30 yards during fitness. The student's thought about what they could see, hear and feel before they began their writing.
Creak, the bridge wobbles like a bowl of jelly. Wondering if the bridge would fall but thankfully I get across safe and sound. We kept on moving slowly forward until we reached another bridge. The sign demanded 5 people only! After the bridge there was a tunnel, pitch black. I could not see where I was going. I was hoping that I would not slip and hurt myself. Finally I got out. We only got to have 2 cookies for the whole way back!
